Western fiction

Everything as we know it today is basically gone, including electricity. Our narrator for this story is a 12 year old named Henry. His whole life has been in Two Notch, which has pretty much less than nothing. Sadly, I could see the world like this if the way people think doesn't change. This was not a book I would typica I consider this book an old western in the future.

This was not a book I would typically pick up, but boring it was not. If you are looking for something a little different to read, you might want to check this story out.

Manual NOTCH: A Novel of the Old West

My first exposure to Ridley, and likely not my last. I found this poking the the Kindle Prime lending library and read it in one sitting. The main characters are well developed, and there are some great plot twists.

Give it a lazy afternoon's read - You won't remember much of it months later, but you'll enjoy the ride. Jan 21, Julie rated it it was amazing. I absolutely loved this book. The setting is an unnamed world that is devastated after a 75 year war, and life has become bare subsistence, much resembling the Old West.

It is established early on that he is pure evil, a hired killer who takes pleasure in striking fear and killing, sometimes slowly.

He spends much of his time in a small town, Fort Heck, which is best known as the place where you can hire killers. Where the book takes a turn from the traditional is in having its protagonist, a former slave named Ben Slattery, also be a hired killer, willing to kill any man for a fee, no reason or justification required. Slattery in the end.

LAWMEN OF THE OLD WEST THE TAMING OF THE WEST

Books have borrowed it, movies have parodied it, and children gallop around on stick horses mimicking it. Yet what DID those people really have to say? If we could listen to Great-great Grandpa, what might come out of his mouth? Of course, Grandma might have gone after him with a broom, for some of it, but for those who write, or those who simply possess inquiring minds, it seems a gathering of a few words or phrases would not be amiss.
